Trên Facebook của Thuy Trang Nguyen đăng tin Phùng Quang Thanh qua đời hôm chủ nhật ngày 19/7/2015 (giờ Pháp) hưởng âm 66 tuổi. Ông qua đời tại bệnh viện Georges Pompidou Hospital.

Hanoi (dpa) - Vietnam‘s Minister of Defence died on Sunday at a French hospital where he was being treated for lung cancer, a military source said.

General Phung Quang Thanh, who was 66, was considered a rising star in the Vietnamese Communist Party before his illness.

He died Sunday at Georges Pompidou Hospital, the military source told dpa. The source declined to be named as he is not authorized to tell media.

Rumours about Thanh‘s illness began circulating with his absence from recent army events. In early July, Pham Gia Khai, a member of the Board for Protection and Care of the Health of Central-Level Officials, confirmed that Thanh was recovering from surgery for a lung tumor in France. He said that the general‘s condition was good and that he would return to Vietnam in two weeks.

Thanh had been considered a likely candidate to take up the position of Vietnamese president at the country‘s next party congress, sources said. He however withdrew from the Politburo before going to France for treatment.

Bộ trưởng quốc phòng Phùng Quang Thanh qua đời 



Bộ trưởng quốc phòng Phùng Quang Thanh vừa qua đời vào hôm chủ nhật, 19/7/2015 tại Pháp, Thông tấn xã Đức DPA dẫn nguồn tin từ quân đội cho hay.

Ông Thanh tử vong tại bệnh viện Georges Pompidou, Paris, sau gần một tháng được bí mật đưa đến đây điều trị căn bệnh ung thư phổi.

Đúng như nhiều lời dự đoán, sinh mạng của đại tướng Phùng Quang Thanh - ứng cử viên nặng ký cho chức vụ chủ tịch nước vào năm 2016 đã chính thức kết thúc ở độ tuổi 66.

Trước đó, các thông tin từ Ban bảo vệ, chăm sóc sức khỏe trung ương công bố đều cho biết tình trạng sức khoẻ ông này ‘khả quan’, thậm chí còn nói đã ‘ra viện’.

Cái chết của tướng Thanh diễn ra đúng vào thời điểm cuộc chạy đua quyền lực trước đại hội đảng lần thứ 12 đang diễn ra hết sức khốc liệt. 

Nhiều khả năng, người ngồi thay chiếc ghế bộ trưởng quốc phòng quốc phòng của ông Thanh sẽ là thượng tướng Đỗ Bá Tỵ - tổng tham mưu trưởng quân đội Việt Nam.
